30 Days with the Fuji 35mm f2: Day Thirty

Day 30! I can’t believe how taxing it’s been to post so much…I don’t know how people make it through entire 365 projects. While I’m a little relieved to have the freedom to shoot and post whenever I want again, this project was a very good experience and I had a lot of fun with it! I’ll definitely consider doing this sort of thing the next time I get a new lens/body.

I was hoping to do a proper night shoot sometime with this lens to prove that you don’t need a super wide angle lens to do astrophotography…but I never really got around to it. So tonight, I headed up to Horsetooth Reservoir and braved single digit temperatures for a few minutes to snap some shots. I didn’t last super long in the cold, but I did manage to get a couple that I enjoyed. Normally, I would have liked to do a ~30 minute exposure (or equivalent exposures stacked together) to get really long and dramatic star trails, but I was too cold to stay out for that long so I settled for a relatively quick 3 minute exposure instead. While not a portfolio shot or anything, I think it proves the point (to me at least), that successful astrophotography can be made with a 50mm lens. I’m heading to Joshua Tree this weekend where astrophotography opportunities abound, so maybe I’ll use that as an opportunity to give this lens a proper go at photographing the night sky…

Anyways, thanks so much for following this series, and let me know if you have any other ideas for cool projects! πŸ™‚

  1. This was a lovely series, and it has been very refreshing to see photos of “home”. I used to live in FoCo, and it is such a beautiful city! I now live a little farther east, but often come to Fort Collins! Lovely photos and lovely to meet another local photographer!

  2. Very much enjoyed the series. I was researching this lens and came across your site around Day 2. I didn’t buy the lens, but I found a new spot to land. Thanks!
