week fifteen — under the overpass

like last week’s shot, this photo was taken with my new Canon 6D. i know i gushed about it last week, so i’ll refrain from doing so this week also…but i really do love this thing.

one of the cool things about chicago is that it’s pretty much impossible to escape the arts. beauty survives, even underneath the lake shore overpasses. something about the contrast of the grungy city life with artwork is very appealing.

i tried to highlight this contrast in the editing process by utilizing hdr technology and toying with the definition and color contrast. the viewer gets a very intimate feel of the city through the car trails and the grungy details of the underside of the overpass, but a beautiful mural is still at the center of the shot.
