30 Days with the Fuji X-T2: Day 27

The prompt for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo challenge asks if “something bright or reflective has caught your eye”. Some days I feel like that’s all that catches my eye when I’m on the streets… I see so much wonderful street photography that beautifully captures the human element in an urban environment, and sometimes I get frustrated with myself because I seem to only be able to focus on the city’s shiny surfaces and weird details. This has caused me to re-think whether I’m really doing “street photography” on more than one occasion…
Ultimately, though, street photography is such a broad and loosely defined genre. I’m sure many would scoff at my work and tell me that it’s not street photography at all. But to me, street photography just means shooting stuff while I’m wandering the streets. If the images teach me something about the city or its inhabitants, I call it street photography. 🙂
Why wouldn’t it be considered street photography. You are on the street capturing things others generally don’t notice. Does it have to be photos of people to be street photography? I like that you are heading in a different direction – opens the eyes of the viewer. Love and Light!

Thanks! I appreciate the support! It can be intimidating to go against the grain, so a little positive encouragement is much appreciated. 🙂

We agree on the definition. There is a lot to photograph on the street.

yeah, I agree…stuff wandering streets. A street doesn’t have to be in the shot, or people.
