30 Days with the Leica M10 Monochrom: Day 22
Both today’s and tomorrow’s photos showcase an aspect of photography that I think is especially beautiful in black and white: backlighting. There are definitely circumstances when backlighting works well in color, but I’ve always found it exceedingly difficult to get the edit worked out the way I want it to. Something about the way the saturation of the color fades as the brightness increases always feels off (at least when shooting digital…film seems to render that transition much better). When I don’t have to worry about that pesky saturation falloff, though, the drama of the backlighting is unencumbered and comes through powerfully.
